Binti

Binti is the first of the Himba people ever offered a place at Oomza University, the galaxy's finest institution of learning. She boards a spaceship carrying her people's otjize clay — the embodied heritage of ancient mathematical harmonics, ancestral craft and wisdom. When the jellyfish-like Meduse massacre the ship's crew, Binti is the sole survivor — precisely because her ancient embodied knowledge proves more powerful than any technology available to the 'advanced' civilisations around her.
